Please Don’t Forget the Dragons

Please Don’t Forget the Dragons
Bjorn Norgaard

Even in the most extreme situations art makes it possible to describe the world in all its beauty and horror in a poetic way.  Not necessarily to judge or condemn, but to make it possible for the individual viewer to accept both as a part of life. Whatever happens in life, sometimes a person must forget to remember in order to understand who they are.
In any culture, art has the skill to show us the beauty of life; this beauty doesn’t necessarily represent truth, but the ability to express the artist’s reality, no matter how painful that might be.
Only by facing our weaknesses are we able to determine our strength and our vices and virtues. Through these life experiences we are able to learn, and improve our future.
China is one of the oldest cultures; throughout history China has inspired the rest of the world with their unique cultural development. In the last century China’s path as a country has been a long and hard one, but at the end of this road China has reached outstanding results. To prevail from its history, and its identity and its long and rich traditions as one of the world’s greatest culture; China should listen to its many beautiful and inspiring artists. China has forgotten the dragons.
Wenzhi Zhang is one of these artists; her work of dynamic characters express traditional Chinese arts with a contemporary vision.
Knowing Wenzhi for almost a decade, our relationship has been an inspiring one. She has added another dimension to my life. As a Chinese artist, Wenzhi Zhang takes care of the dragons; and perhaps she has given me a dragon perception.
Please don’t forget the dragons.
